RIBA Living with Water

Our shortlisted proposal for the RIBA international design competition centred on a future-forward response to the challenges of rising sea levels. Set on the banks of the Humber Estuary in a prominent location within the city of Hull, the scheme embraced the natural dynamics of the waterfront, allowing parts of the site to flood in a controlled and considered way.

At the heart of the masterplan stood a series of iconic waterfront buildings, including a public pavilion positioned as the scheme’s focal point. Conceived as a welcoming civic “meeting place,” the pavilion framed uninterrupted views toward the water beyond, celebrating the estuary as both a defining feature and an evolving force in the life of the city.
